Our History
The organization was founded in the late 1990s as Farmhouse Music Organization and received its IRS tax-exempt recognition in July 1999. For years its centerpiece was Farmfest — a festival at the organization’s farm property in Montmorency County, where music and nature came together. In recent years the organization became Farmhouse Arts Inc., reflecting a broader mission to support all of the performing arts.
Today we focus on bringing live music to small Michigan communities, partnering with local organizations like the Modeltown Market in Gwinn and the Dunesville Music Festival, and funding musicians through grants supported by Michigan Humanities. While Farmfest is currently on pause following damage to the farm property from the 2025 ice storm, it remains an important part of who we are.
